Lads, i travelled over to Ballymore last Sunday to see Aylmer Gaels v Ballymore in Minor Lge Semi Final, the two outstanding players on view were Jimmy (Hyland) and S.Barrett (Shane i think) in the middle of the field for Ballymore was outstanding, Jimmy left on the bench yesterday and Barrett doesn't even make the panel........something not right......

Lads I was talking to a selector who was over at the match in Ballymore for that league semifinal and he said the 3 best players on view were Shane Barrett no 08,Jimmy Hyland no 11 (0-9 pts) and Darragh Malone no 6 (0-3 pts).Of those 3 players Jimmy Hyland at no 15 and Darragh Malone at no 06 were on the All Ireland winning school team, and of those 2 only Jimmy Hyland was on the Kildare squad and he was only brought on with 10 min to go and still scored 4 pts 0-3 pts from frees. Not one of the Kildare Minor Management team of 5 attended the All Ireland Final where as all of the Offaly Minor Management team attended the match.????

Terrifying. If it's as bad as Louth and given the juniors aren't playing and the seniors might as well not play, our football season could be over in first week of May. Awful lot of pressure on hurlers in London on Saturday!

Looks like our supporters are as lily-livered as we often accuse our players of being. Offaly seem to be on the up and are a county with a fine tradition and mental attitude.
But here's a chance for our lads to rise to the occasion and show what they're made of. Hope they can do it and bring us all some cheer. If we are frightened of them like Tommy seems to be we definitely won't succeed. But often, Kildare teams have seemed to suffer from that. Let's see what this generation are made of.

The best the minors played this year was the second half up in DCU v Dublin back in February. They were aggressive in the tackle and going for 50/50 ball, let the ball in early and played around the sweeper and the forwards ran directly at goal. The interesting thing is at half-time that day most of the talking done in the huddle was by Conor Hartley and Kevin O'Callaghan rather than by the manager and selectors.

Since then we have reverted to bad habits, carrying the ball weakly into the tackle, struggling to turnover possession in the tackle, moving the ball too slowly and being reluctant to run at opponents inside the 45. Wouldn't say anyone is frightened of Offaly but Offaly are a better team than Louth and if we couldn't correct mistakes in a month from the league final to the Louth game, its difficult to be confident that they will be corrected before next Wednesday. Also half the team changed from the league final and there was no improvement so that would indicate the problem lies with the coaching and direction more so than the players.

I know there have been plenty of points raised about players who should be on the team/panel who are not and that may be correct but the team picked the last day had the talent to win that game. If the draw had worked out differently and we played Westmeath before Offaly I would be more confident but I will still be in Tullamore hoping that they can turn it around.

Offaly 2 -13. Westmeath 1 - 10.

This is some task going to Tullamore, just to get a Win and make the Q Finals.. I would expect Jimmy Hyland to start and make a Big impact.

I would prefer if young lads were not named and pressure put on these young players shoulders by members of this forum who remain anonymous and have there own agenda.....

Not frightened of them at all Crofter, frightened of ourselves. We're a laughing stock completely down to our own actions on and off the field, from top to bottom. Can't you see that? Losing to Louth at minor level, the squad make-up, the crap going on in that dressing room is just part of it and sums up the wider issue across all grades.

Ah ok I see what you mean TK, I picked up your comment wrong. Of course I see all those things. I do think people will pick on every last item to suit their argument or agenda though. But I am in the record here a out my views on Ryan. I tend not to comment so much on the under age set up or squads as I am living away and only get to see the senior team as a rule. I just don't think any Kildare team should fear Offaly but so many times we seem to do so. Offaly know it too and feed off it despite their own poverty over the last 10 or 15 years. I'd like to see our lads go in there with a positive do or die attitude next week. Fingers crossed that happens. Many on here feared Offaly before the under 21 encounter and we won handily that night. Same again please lads.

Next week will be a tough examination for the lads against a good offaly team who ran Dublin close but it's one they are well capable of winning. It'll be close either way but good luck to them

In fairness Crofter, I think the Scoreline v Offaly u21's flattered us a little bit..

As lillyboy said, if we have the belief I think we can Win.. but its a Big IF.

best of luck to the lads tomorrow evening, quite a few changes in personnel I'm told. Hopefully the challenge matches last week have helped identify the right combination of players

Heard 6 changes from team that played Louth, a couple due to injuries picked up over last few weeks in challenge matches and league finals! Hopefully the changes can make the difference tomorrow
