Agreed. We only won 3 of Offaly's first 10 kickouts and often there were two going for the ball with Eoin Carroll and one or two Offaly players there to pick up the break. Other times we last 50/50 challenges for breaking ball. Houlihan's ability to win those types of challenges sets him apart from his teammates.

Even though it was comfortable in the end it could have been very different if it wasn't for two excellent saves by Heaney at vital times. Offaly carried the ball from one 45 to the other far too easily but often tried to thread a pass through a couple of defenders rather than use the overlap so we got away with it. Maguire did well at full-back and Houlihan was excellent. Liked the fact that when Moore got the ball in the first half with the wind behind him he was always looking for Flatherty at the edge of the square. Kelly put on a clinic but apart from the scores and foot passing he forced McNamee's black card by taking him on when his senior counterparts would have turned around and passed it back or kicked towards the corner flag. In fairness the forwards generally were good at running directly at goal. But they'd need to work an awful lot harder on their tackling for the next day. Would start Healy instead of McMonagle the next day (6 shots, 1 point). McMonagle is kind of like Kavanagh and Dowling at that age in that you kind of know after 5 - 10 minutes what sort of day he's going to have.

Offaly were only an imitation of what they were last year. Exhibit A Darragh Corbett. Last year he looked like he'd kill his own family members to win a breaking ball, last night he went through the motions. Only Carroll and Cunningham looked up for it. Maybe for financial reasons Offaly only make an effort in even numbered years! But their best players are all overage next year.

Meath will be a very different challenge, its no harm its back in Portlaoise. One of their midfielders is injured at the moment. Don't know for how long. The semi final happens to fall in the middle of 5 league matches in a row for Meath so not sure how much focus the younger players will have on this semi final. If we can stop O'Coileain the centre forward, we would have a good chance but still think its a tough task.

The idea of using minor and under 21 championship games to blood up and coming referees is fine in theory but the referees have to have some ability. Last night's ref was shocking. Never seen Murphy so animated on the sideline with a ref and you couldn't blame him. When Moriarty was sent off, we were still playing against 15 with that ref.

Good insight Shergar.. I agree with a lot of what You suggest.. I would move Sherry to MF, Kelly to CF, and bring in C Healy and W Fitzpatrick, Two more physical Players, which will be needed v the Royals.

Have to agree with Shergar re the Ref....

He was appaling......... Penalised N Kelly in the first half when a ball bounced up into his hands & in the second when he very deliberately raised the ball with his foot.....I was sitting with 2 last year Offaly Minors and they were laughting their heads off at how bad, for Kildare & sympathic to us, he was.......
We got a lot of handy frees yet Kildare players had to be assaultedbefore getting on.... First 2 Offaly points after HT came from blatant fouls on Kildare players, not given ..... Its diffucult to understand his attitude.

Have seen him a few times doing Ladies games & he was equally bad....

I argued previously that there should have been more of the U21s on the Senior Panel.. But after watching then a few times, I couldnt say there are too many of them up to it YET, with the exeption of maybe Houli and when He does get on the Ball (not doing so yet) Sherry.

All very quiet here.. Cant see Murph making too many changes from the last Day, He does tend to stick with a winning Team.
Meath will be hard Beat.. I see they had a good few u21's involved v Laois at the Weekend, which was a bit of a surprise.
We badly need to Win this for a bit of a boost in the County.

Roscommon beat Meath 4-12 to 0-01 in Hastings Cup. If we break even midfield we will win.

That's a big if though. We were beaten at midfield against Offaly and Meath could have their 2 senior midfielders. I'd like to see Paschal Connell moved here. We have to better at picking up the breaks and our forwards have to tackle better.
When we do get the ball though we are good at moving it forward and our forwards are capable of running up a decent score.
Best of luck to Brian Murphy and the team tomorrow night. Hope a decent crowd goes to support them.

Yeah if we can win our fair share of primary possession I think our forwards have the potential to put up a winning score. I wouldn't read too much into the Hastings Cup. Meath will have some players who were not playing in that and they were All Ireland finalists at minor level three years ago so they can't be too shabby.

Spot on KKK, Meath have 11 u21's on their Senior Panel, and none of these featured in their Hastings Cup Campaign, hence the One sided Results against them..

I think its fairly certain Pascal will move to Midfield, and Hylo to CB, I wouldnt be surprised to see a couple of changes in the Forwards aswell.. but like I said Murph dosent tend to make to many changes when His Team is Winning, rightly or wrongly ?.

Same again so, hard to make changes to a winning team in fairness, thought Chris Healy might have come into the team, good option to have off the bench though, best of luck to the lads tonight anyway, we could really do with a win!!

Great result,,,,,,,,,,,,, expected that "brilliant" Minor All Ireland Finalists to blow away a "poor" Kildare team of "gym monkies",,,,,,,,,,,,

Might shut up a few loudmouths (not Kildare !!!!) for a minute at least !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
