Incompetence is at the root of the Kildare problem. Incompetence at County Board level; incompetence at management level and incompetence on the pitch. Incompetence breeds disinterest - thus the falling numbers of supporters.
In previous bad times people still supported Kildare in numbers - not any more, it seems. Of course, a dozen supporters will have a dozen solutions - as they will in every county - but one thing you could say for McGeeney and O'Dwyer was that they had passion for the job, the team and the county, and that they engendered that passion in the players.
When Micko took over, if memory serves me, we had lost to Kilkenny. It took him a few years and a second coming but from the moment he arrived he got the players to start out on the road to belief and he ignored the gobshitery of some elements of the County Board and the gobshitery among some elements of the team.
Barring a miracle, we are bound for Division 3 and, it's obvious that Jason Ryan - who seems to be a decent man for whom I've no personal dislike -is struggling not only on the pitch but off the pitch. I doubt very much he has the respect of this severely incompetent team.
What we need now is a leader who will at least lead from the front, rather than a shepherd who seems to be herding from the back. I've said it before on this forum - passion in the leadership allied to competent training will bring at least some modicum of pride back to the jersey.
One thing I do agree with Jason Ryan on is the woeful and inept play of many of the Kildare players - yesterday they were mired in incompetence and blind-alley syndrome. They lack speed of foot and speed of thought but they also lack passion, the greatest crime in my eyes.
The leadership of the County Board is inept; the management is inept or ineffective and the players are wallowing in mediocrity - on good days.
Arses need to be kicked.
When Micko was invited in, the invitation came from certain supporters - not from the County Board. I'd rather face the championship with a passionate, committed arse-kicking manager who took no bullshit from those on the County Board or the team than the current crop of pseudo-managers/administrators and players. But then this is Ireland....no one ever resigns.

Roscommon are a good team. They are easily the strongest we have faced in division 2. We are lacking around the mddle and our backs are too loose. Also, Tomas O Connor isnt up to it. We were clearly better side v Down and look at them now. Its not inconcevable that we will stay up. Id still fancy us to beat Laois and then its down to final game. Cheer up people, nobodys died. And as for the moaners who dont even bother go to the games, keep it shut . And its not all the manager's fault. Give me 5 names of players who are not on the team who should be ..this is the best we have and we are in transition. Eoghan O Flaherty the best club forward in Kildare for past 5 years and hes only average at intercounty level. So thats where we are.

You're right, Lily, Kildare are just putting on an act to put other counties off guard and we'll sweep through Leinster come the Summer. All is well. As for keeping it shut....is that our mouths or the gates of St Conleth's?

TomONeill very true post - at this stage when any team is in the place we are the basic thing that should happen is for the players to come out fighting rather than lying down which is what we are doing.
Simple heart, passion, workrate, tackling just not there, lack of leadership on and off the pitch is simply not there, our players are 'followers' not 'leaders' so need some kind of leader which Jason is simply not doing and he is putting too much trust in some of the players, even some of the soccer managers come out of the stands when things aren't going according to plan!
#show a bit of pride and passion

It's really sad to see us as a footballing county to be where we are. I said it before and I'll say it again will someone pick up the phone and ring Johnny Doyle and beg him to come back.

In fairness I thought Paul Cribben showed a lot of passion and leadership yesterday particularly in the 1st half. He also kicked some lovely points and seemed to be one of the few who was getting onto to his team mates to raise the level in the 2nd half.
We should acknowledge those that played well and always seem to try to do the right thing even when things are going pear shaped. It must have been awful for the players to be over run like that in the 2nd half and very demoralising.

Roscommon are a good team and obviously learned from the Laois match, they also had Shine back in midfield. They also learned from the 1st half yesterday in so much as they pushed up on our kick outs which left us in all sort of panic. We continue to make the same basic errors, forwards unable to stay on their feet and either recycle or get a shot off, very little discipline in the tackle and running into blind alleys. Very few of the players could be satisfied with their form during the league and time is rapidly running out. Hopefully changes are made for the Laois match and we really need N Kelly and T Moolick back

Lilysavage I would have to disagree with you and say that roli Sweeney and Adam tyrrell have been the two best club footballers in the last 2 years certainly! One retired and the other not on the panel! Why is it that moorefield and sarsfields seem to be so dominant in club championship but none of their players can make the Kildare side??

We concede 24 Points.. In the 2nd Half We scored 1pt from Play, from a MidFielder.. No Forward Scores in 35 Mins of Football.. Bolton at Corner Back ?, Mulhall brought on with 5 Mins left ?,Moolick ?, these are all the Managers decisions.. Yes the Players have to stand up and be counted, but these Fellas have imo no faith in Jason, and He needs to do the Honourable thing and go.

Considering Leix hammered them in the previous game I'm not so sure they're all that.

Maybe Murphy just looked at the likely opposition, Offaly who had beaten us twice in 3 years and Meath who had reached a minor final and thought that it would be a fine achievement to reach a Leinster final?
It was always likely that Dublin would be the oppositon in the final if we got that far and it would be foolish imo to think that they would not be a formidable outfit. We should have learned from the hype of 2013 when some people were talking about winning an AI early in the season.
We really need to keep our teams grounded as much as possible as we all tend to overestimate our abilty to deliver on the big day. Don't forget that most people here would have reckoned we would be in the fight for promotion to Div 1 rather than Div 3!

While Murph might say that Publicly, I can guarantee that in the Camp they will have no doubts they can Win this Match.
