Decided to post this in here, might make more of a discussion on hurling if we have one thread for all hurling matters!

Just wanted to start on a high note, well done to the Senior Hurlers who are promoted out of Division 2B with a 100% clean slate this year. Adding to the great success of last summer, this upward curve is continuing. The lads bet meath today in the final by 0-22 to 0-17. There was nothing in the game throughout with only 1 point between the sides at half time. Kildare took the vital stages by firing over a brace of points in a row, around 45 mins into the game. They never looked back after and kept meath at bay retaining a 5 point lead throughout the second half. Well done lads!!

Decent win but in fairness we should be winning that division. At the time I thought last summer it was a great pity that Westmeath promotion game was shunted on us after six games in six weeks. However in reality, the league may be more important for long-term growth. If we are going to get to the next level, promotion was vital as Division 2A is a real step up and where we can improve speed, skill and hopefully, ultimately, consistency. Surviving in a group of Westmeath, Carlow, Derry, London Antrim/Kerry would be wonderful. You'd be hoping to beat London/Derry to the drop so we get to play more and more against the better teams, raising the level over the next two or three years.

As an aside, interesting read from before the league. http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/kildares-hurlers-are-fighting-to-escape-the-backwater-30897732.html

Well done to the hurlers. Everyone in the county, myself included, can be guilty of overlooking what they are doing.
Really would like to see more league double-headers when the chance arises.

Well done to the hurlers today. I thought it was unfair that we had to beat Meath again to get promoted after winning the league so thankfully we did so today.
Looks like they have a professional set-up and getting Niall Ronan on board is a big plus. Good that young players seem now to be joining the panel whereas before they might have opted out.
Looking forward to see how we do in the Christy Ring cup, hopefully we can retain our title. Onwards and upwards!

Promotion is achieved by winning the final, then into the leinster round robin for the official championship.

Well done to all involved and were the best team in the division. I was worried as after winning all the matches in the regular season it was a banana skin to play a final against a team you beat earlier. So that was a good win imo. However it is a step up next year. Make no mistake about it. WE struggled big time last year in that division. I do think we are good enough to stay in that division with more improvement.

Christy Ring Final to get live coverage on tg4. Great to see the GAA finally beginning to promote the 'weaker' hurling counties somewhat. It would be great if the lads made it to the final again this year. Last year it was a brilliant match against kerry, absolute hurling thriller; yet only got 7 minutes on the sunday game that weekend! Pretty lousy. Here's hoping for a good campaign..........

Some game by sounds of it, down seven late in normal time, Mark Moloney got last-second goal to get extra-time, led by three but London drew it up at the death with goal of their own. Newbridge next week. That's a really good result against one of the top three teams in it (ourselves and Kerry being the others).

Todays game will stand to the lads. First round and already straight into helter skelter business. Their character was tested today, and they responded to everything. Hopefully they can go on and complete the job next week. Interesting weekend re this and club fixtures and dual players...............

Talking to some very unhappy hurlers yesterday, the question, why wasn't the hurling match played in between the 2 football games today, say at 5 p.m. What an wasted opportunity to promote the game in Kildare.

I can fully understand both, however I feel still a lost opportunity.

Meath in quarter-final, no draw as we'd already played London, who play Down in other quarter-final. Derry and Kerry await in semi-final. By scoreline they gave Kerry a right game the last day and little between us in league final so tough one. But fine comeback against Mayo at weekend, thinking we scored 15 of last 17 points or something like that when behind and a man down. But away again - that's the last five Ring Cup draws in a row we've been handed a road game.

Another good win for the hurlers today beating Meath by 8 points after being 9 points down at one stage.
We play Kerry in the semi-final in Newbridge on Saturday. Derry and Down are in the other semi.

Great win. My god they would amaze you, the resilience they have shown and today was yet another example of a good mental strength. Meath were numerically disadvantaged but that was not until mid second half when we were still behind. Great result but yet another mammoth challenge in kerry next week. Would be great to get the win, but its going to be so tough!

For the first time ever tonight a Kildare under 21 team will take their place in the Proper Leinster Championship. Naturally we are up against it playing a Wexford team that was in the All Ireland Final last year. Its a great opportunity for these lads to showcase their skills at a higher level. The team is basically the same as last year which won the All ireland so no doubt they will give a good account of themselves. The game is in Newbridge tonight so if your free get out and support the lads.
