When is the last time Kildare have went into championship in such a hopeless shambolic position.

Relegation to Div 3, Players leaving panel and just and all round depression .

Can we do anything this year worthwhile in championship

10 of 11 teams entering Leinster Championship this year are doing so hopelessly.

We can beat Laois for starters, not sure whether you consider that worthwhile or not

Look things have not gone well. Weather its the managers fault or the players just not producing. But the fact remains. This is a team game. Players need to kop on and get back on the road and give it their all for the championship. Even if the manager is not up to scratch surely lads still have the drive to put the effort in.

I certainly do not mind lads heading off travelling. Its fair enough. I would prefer if they would let management know as early in the year as possible. If we are all disappointed that Dan Flynn is heading off and maybe not be available then so be it. I for one would NEVER rely on Dan Flynn. He will do what suits him as he always has done.

The going is getting tough and I expect a good bunch of the Kildare lads to get stuck in. And its these lads who I and many in the county will admire. For their honesty in tough times as well as the good times. And lets be honest. If we can beat Laois its a good result at the moment. A good effort against Dublin and a good no pressure run in the qualifiers.

Lets face it. Dublin at the moment are miles ahead of us and most teams in the country.

Hard to imagine any benefit to losing to a team we beat so easily in the last 5 years. It could mean a total breakdown in morale and confidence in the manager and a few players suddenly finding attractive offers from the States for the summer.
The only way to approach the Dublin game in my opinion is to adopt an ultra defensive setup and hope for the best. Not the way we want to play but we tried going man to man with them and it was humiliating. Our best chance is a few handy games in the qualifiers and a new manager after that.

It's a sad state of affairs when some people wouldn't consider a defeat to Laois to be a complete disaster because it would mean avoiding Dublin. It would be the silver lining in a mushroom cloud.

If we park our thoughts on the whole management and county board setup for a moment and concentrate on the players. We don't have a bad set of players despite how bad this year has gone so far. They were good enough to beat Laois in their own back yard only a few weeks ago and are more than capable of doing so again. They're no world beaters by any means but they have to be hurting at the way things have gone and we have to hope that they can channel that hurt into a few good committed displays this summer.

There may be very little faith in the management's ability to set the players up properly and buy into the strategy but we have to hope that the players' pride will see them go down fighting at the very least. If we do get over Laois then we really wouldn't have anything to lose against Dublin. The odds are we'll get a heavy beating but it's not like we haven't been on the receiving end of any of those throughout our history. Go out and give it everything and who knows, we might restore some pride. That might be a very simplistic and outdated mentality but it's all we're left with at this stage.

Was down in Carlow Saturday night to see the potential opposition.
Carlow were dreadful. You cannot comprehend how bad they were. Half the senior clubs in Kildare would beat them.
As for Laois, you just can't judge them on this game. An absolute stroll. I reckon if Donie Kingston is stopped, it'll be "aisy talk to them".

Clutching at straws kickingking. Pride and will to win at this level is a given for the most part. What separates the wheat from the chaff is the level of preparation and the system you implement. The simple fact of the matter is with the players we have at our disposal, we are certainly not getting any return.

The players will be standing in the dressing room before the Laois match knowing they are poorly prepared and off the back of back to back relegations, and lets face it some very very poor results and performances.
It's not a tap you can turn on. Laois will be absolutely gunning for us, make no mistake about it.
What might get us over the line against Laois is the fact that we have far superior footballers. Not pride or chest pumping.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the dressing room after some of the league defeats this year. Or after some training sessions in the next couple of weeks, just to see the mentality of Jason Ryan and the players.

Because it has to be a very bad place to be at the moment.

"Far Superior Footballers".. Not so sure Freddy.
I would probably fancy us if the Match was in Portlaoise, .. not so sure about Tullamore.

What makes you so unsure Seamus. We've beaten them at underage and Senior level for the last 5/6/7 years. And comfortably too.

If I remember rightly we beat them by 21/22 points at u21 level a couple of years back.

We have far superior footballers. The stats don't lie. We're just not getting the most from them at the moment.

I wouldn't dispute that the team looks badly prepared and are playing poor football.

However as individuals they have to be badly stung by the stick they have been getting. The real test of a player is when they're down and when the odds are stacked against them. Are they just going to throw their hat at it or are they going to come out fighting? Apart from the last few minutes against Laois we didn't see nearly enough fight during the league. That motivation doesn't come solely from management and nor should it. Players have to drive themselves and each other on. Didn't Johnny Doyle take it upon himself to organise extra sessions for the forwards when he was playing?

Whatever the results that lie ahead of us over the next few weeks we are going to learn a lot about our players. There's still a lot of pride at stake here. If players are writing off a championship campaign before a ball is kicked then it only confirms a lot of the criticisms that have often been unfairly leveled at Kildare footballers down the years.

What was stopping them showing some fight during the first six months of the year.

They have been getting stick and rightfully so for their performances, yet it's not pulled something out of them at any stage. To suddenly think come June 6th that they will become pride and passion incarnate is foolish.

They and the manager had a chance of redemption against Galway but produced a performance so sickly and bordering on gutless that any lingering hope that they could muster themselves for a fight evaporated.

This team and manager are a lame duck, there is no future for them. Some will say that's negative, I say it's a pragmatic view of reality.

Seamus you can go ahead and fancy us as it is in Portlaoise as far as everything I've read goes?
