PostSubject: Camogie and Ladies in All Ireland Finals   Tue Sep 08, 2015 10:26 pm

Well lads. Just want to congratulate the women of our great county as they have reached both Intermediate finals. I decided to post it in here so they'd get more publicity! The very best of luck to both teams, who will play Waterford in the two finals. I hope crowds will travel to support them as they are keeping the lilywhite flag flying high.
A word on the Camogie - continuing on the great work that has been done in the last decade, this team have continued on their upward curve since winning the Junior A All Ireland in 2010. They followed this with the premier junior title 2 years ago as well as the leinster title last year. A serious amount of work has been done with the underage and now many of the minor all Ireland winners of 2 years ago are involved with this team. The mixture of experience has blended well with the youth - 8 members of the 2004 national league winning team will be involved on Sunday. Credit is due to all involved right from county board level down to the coaches and clubs. They overcame a hotly fancied Cork team in the Semi Final and it was a very high quality game with us edging it by 1-12 to 11 pts. Huge result which now leaves them meeting the Deise on Sunday for the third time this year. Lets hope the girls can make it third time lucky and overturn them.

A word on the Ladies - like the camogie in many respects, it is great to see the youth and hardened battlers of a more senior age blending well. The experience the older girls have gained at playing in the senior grade helped them greatly in reaching the final as offaly proved to be no easy task in the Leinster Final prior to last saturdays meeting. A few of the younger members of the team come from the u-16 All Ireland winning team of 2011 so these girls will have huge experience of winning on a national level. Some of the team of 2004 remain and again although 11 years ago this experience of winning will surely only help the cause. Like the Camogie team they too face waterford on the 27th of september who will be favorites. The underdog tag will suit Kildare in both codes.

Best wishes to both teams, and its great to see two KE teams in All Ireland Finals. Go out and finish the job Girls!!

Well done, fair play for putting that up here. Best of luck to both times. Amazing that they're playing Waterford in both.

Camogie in particular has made massive strides in recent years, emerging from the doldrums. Getting to intermediate final in only their second year back up there outstanding and it's a stiff task.

Footballers probably more fancied, given they are back down at intermediate for the first year, having chosen to do so as they assimilated a lot of younger girls into the panel. Waterford have been there or thereabouts in intermediate for a few years and are battle-hardened. Haven't followed enough of the football to know what way it might go. But excellent to be in two All-Irelands.

Great achievement by both teams and the best of luck to the girls. Hopefully there will be a big Kildare crowd there on both days. The tickets are reasonably priced and if there were men's teams competing their would be a huge interest

Kildare will be represented in the junior final by a famous Kildare GAA family. Julie O'Loughlin is playing for Scotland in the junior final. Julie' s grand father played in midfield for Kildare in 1928 and her two uncles were on the Leinster team who won Leinster medals in 1956. Her brother still plays for Monasterevin

First time since 1994 I think that they have reached the camogie intermediate final, Ogie.

I love connections like that Sons Of Sarsfields, it adds interest to the situation. Here's hoping the luck of '28 and '56 will shine on both teams!!

Some achievement by the girls to reach two finals.

Considering the state camogie was in in this county about 10 or so years ago it’s been some turn around. Massive respect for everybody who’s played their part over the last few years. A good few of them would have played in division 4 a couple of years ago which shows how far they’ve come, junior to the brink of senior in 3 season is some going too in fairness.

As Ogie said on the other thread though it’s a bigger ask for the camog’s than it is the footballers.

Dropping down to intermediate has really paid off, not because Leinster is in the bag and there’s a good chance of an All Ireland (which will do nicely) but because it’s really helped the progression of some of the younger players into the county set up.

As clichéd as it sounds there’s solid mix of experience and youth in the team. A strong spine with the likes of Savage, Holton and Moolick with some quality younger players around them.

Anybody know if they’re obliged to go back up to senior if they beat Waterford in 2 weeks time? Obviously you want to be competing against the best teams and there’s no point staying at intermediate solely on the basis of having a better shot at winning, but looking at some of the big beatings handed out at senior level this summer you’d wonder would next year be a year too soon?

Still though, a Leinster title already in the bag, a good shot at an All Ireland title - who knows what a bit of confidence and momentum might do.

Watched the football game last week. They never looked in trouble against Offaly and probably should've won by a lot more. Was very impressed with the number 10, she looked absolutely wrecked for the entire game but caused havoc whenever she got her hands on the ball. Moolick was outstanding too.

Hard luck to the girls after the defeat to Waterford. It just seemed to be a case of Waterford's experience at a higher level over the last few years getting them over the line. One result doesn't define the progress that has been made in the county over the last few years so hopefully the girls don't let the heads drop.

It's a bit of a turnaround from the above for the footballers who should benefit from being a senior side last year playing against a team who are a more genuine (for want of a better phrase) intermediate side.

There's a big push on to get a decent crowd into Croker on Sunday so hopefully a big crowd is on hand to support the girls.

Didn't see any of yesterday but evidently they were a clear second best. Waterford had already lost two intermediate finals but Kildare had chosen to come down from senior so I wasn't sure what the gap might be.

Would imagine there's plenty in them to come again next year with a few good young players coming through.

I was extremely disappointed to see that the ladies football is following the path of the gents football in so far as dropping the extra player back a sweeper, sometimes 2 players, not contesting the kick out's and even when the  ball was kicked out long from the kick out Waterford appeared to have 3 players free in the middle of the park.

I was at a local match yesterday, near the dug out and the same thing, negative, negative, negative tactics, get players behind the ball at all cost, leave 2 up in the forwards with no support.

I am getting disillusioned with the game altogether, it is getting more negative every year, almost as bad as the soccer.

Why is defending and evolution of tactics considered negative? Why is that word used? Surely depends on the person but we've had the same few heads telling everyone else what to think because they don't believe their opinions are subjective. For me (and this is men's intercounty football) the problem is the amount of teams that can compete, not tactics.

I agree Tommy with the amount of teams that can compete however I am almost finished paying my hard earned few bob on watching teams with 13 defenders each and 2 forwards.  However every person to their own.

It will be interesting to see if Celbridge's defensive style of play can overcome Sarsfields offensive style of play because whoever wins that game might set the blueprint for next years club championship.

Might as well add this in here, a massive congratulations to the JTB camogie team who won the Junior Club All Ireland Championship by beating Athleague of Roscommon in Kinnegad yesterday afternoon.

Five in a row winners in Kildare, finally got over the line in Leinster and ended up going all the way.

A couple of the girls would have been on the camogie and football teams that lost out in finals back in September so hopefully this will help make up for some of that heartbreak.

I will join you in congratulating the JTB girls and Manager Mr Dick Flanagan on a fantastic win.

Its some consolation to the County Camogie & Football Ladies after the Croke Park dissapointments but
the likes of Ash Holton, Clo Flanagan & Siobhan H just don't give in easy....................

They were the better team for most of it but went out of it for 15 minutes in the second half and it was a little worrying for a bit. But they had better forwards and having lost to the last two All-Ireland winners in Leinster, it was great to see them get over the line.

First womens club team White Bridge!! Great achievement, and considering they were beaten by previous champions in early rounds the last few years, it really shows how close the were actually. Well done to Dick Flanagan, an absolute gentleman and as he said "they refused to lose". If only that mentality could be replicated on all Kildare scenes, and including my own club!!!!

Sorry lilywhites on tour

Eadestown were a Ladies team who won an All Ireland, the 2006 Club Junior ...

But JTB are the First Kildare Camogie Club team to win a Club All Ireland and I repeat my congratulations to all of them,,,

So it is my belief that , as the then Sec wrote in the 2006 Ladies Football Annual Report

The  first Kildare Club to win an All Ireland Club title, I repeat The First Kildare Club, in either Hurling, Football, Camogie or Ladies Football, an unique honour. Our Club of the Year 2006 The All Ireland Club Champions EADESTOWN

I haven't seen so many attempts at cheap point-scoring in the one space in a long time.

It's not important. Not important if there were 20 of them. They won the All-Ireland. Magnificent achievement.

Best of luck to the girls in another All Ireland final today.

Brilliant, if heartbreaking defeat to Clare a couple of years ago so be great to see them get one back over them. Clare seem to be heavy enough favourites so it'll be a very tough task for a team with a number of changes from last and one that's still very young.

Hopefully they can go one better than last year.
