Saw that report and looked at the Naas rugby v Banbridge. Seems Ryan Casey is playing in the back row for Naas.

I believe they were away last weekend and had a few challenge matches, but I haven't heard how it went.

They had a game against Cork, won by a point, heard they probably should have won by more.

That's a good result.

No doubts kerry will probably be AI favourites having won back to back minors.

Kerry are 4/1 favourites for the AI.. We are a decent 8/1, 6th favourite.
Leinster is Dublin at 6/4.. we're 7/4.

Dublin marginal favourites ahead of us, sounds about right.

I actually would have fancied Meath to beat them in Navan but they can probably forget about it now.

We have a very talented squad with real potential. Mind you - I said the same thing in 2012 and 2014 and we know what happened then.

With Jack O'Connor at the helm and back to back minor titles, you'd have to fancy Kerry to go the whole way.

Anyway, can't believe it's only a fortnight off. I hope to be in attendance - hopefully we do the Biffos at home and take the first step. Wouldn't surprise me if they employed a mass defence but some top forwards in our squad...

Frankly I don't see why Dublin would be favourites over us at all.

That's fighting talk!

It's true we've more than held our own at minor level - but the history of Kildare football is nothing if not dashed expectation...

Tbh I'm half-mortified when we're in a promising position at any level.

You'd think I'd have learned my lesson over the years, but before the 2012 Leinster semi against Meath, I described the match to someone as a "formality" before the inevitable Leinster final against the Dubs.

You could say I was a bit sheepish afterwards...

Whatever about kildare and our tendancies to lose when favoured, Bookies also have a tendancy to price things completely wrong in unexposed markets.

Kerry were 9/2 before handily defeating Laois at the weekend in the hurling.

8/1 is good value imo.. and agree with caprea, I'd rate us ahead of dublin.
Let's do a number on the biffos first.

Anyone any idea of what team is shaping up for this or to take a stab at it?

Iv been to two games so far but hard to predict 15 as their are always players missing
1.???
2. Maguire/mescal
3.mescal/maguire (both maynooth)
4 Byrne (Naas)
5. Houlihan (moores)
6 Shea Ryan (sash)
7.???
8. Connel (athy)
9. Flynn (jtb)
10 Sherry (tmh)
11. Mcgonagle (clocks)
12. Feely (athy)
13 Healy (tmh)
14flynn (maynooth)
15 McCormack (sash)
That's a guess based on the games Iv seen, I had Conor Hartley in the team but had forgotten about sherry, not sure about wing back or goalkeeper

Not a bad effort... Would probably have Sherry at centre forward, McCormack at half forward and McMonagle at corner forward.

I rate McCormack and McMonagle very highly, but McCormack I think is more of an all-action, dynamic type of player, whereas McMonagle is a lethal finisher - the type of player we rarely produce in Kildare. Wayne Fitzpatrick from the same 2013 minor team was similar - any sign of him at the minute? Think maybe I'd read somewhere he couldn't commit due to college / work commitments.

Tbh, it's a very strong team no matter which way you cut it. The two minor teams played last weekend and it looks like there's yet another quality batch coming through. Maximum credit to the people in the clubs and with the development squads, unbelievable work being done.

I'm really setting us up for a fall here, amn't I?

A very talented team on paper but probably more importantly the panel is very strong with numerous players capable of doing a job.

As Hg mentioned fantastic work being done at underage level and if we keep the faith it will eventually bear fruit at senior level

Would play Feely at 8. Play Hartley at wingforward.
