Agree Tommy. This is a young lad and lets be honest has played 20 min good football at under21 level. He hasn't kicked a ball at senior level yet.

He scored 3-4 off Ryan Houlihan in a training game I'm told. Dropping him ain't going to help us as our full forward line is a waste ground when it comes to cutting edge.

I take it Ryan won't be marking him if Moorefield meet Sarsfields later on this year, Laughing Laughing Laughing

It seems to me, irrespective of talent, the discussion over the previous couple of pages comes down to whether posters here believe that going on the lash and not turning up for a training sessions warrants consequences for a player? I'm of the opinion that it does. Yes, he trained all year with the U-21s but the other players on the squad have done the same. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. It's a team, a panel - to allow one or two players get away with things is the beginning the end for any kind of team ethos.

No doubting his ability but it comes down to the type of culture your trying to set. For me a young that thinks thats exceptable behaviour for a senior inter county has a lot to learn. Hopefully he'll learn and move on. But from what i believe he's a good lad and will move on.

Didn't Sean hurley do something similar after the AI semi u21 defeat to galway a few years ago, and from memory was also dropped.
I've no doubt ben will learn and move on.

A summer away from the county scene might not do him any harm in the long term. It hasn't held Neil Flynn back this year anyway.

Is there any update on the injury situation? I presume Dan Flynn won't play any part?

The lad is an obvious talent, but as all things in life if you don't follow the rules, you are in trouble.  Everyone makes a mistake or does something they have regretted, it's how you learn from it.

He'll be fine.

According to the Indo today (Ogie's article) Eoin Doyle won't make it nor will Dan Flynn. Niall Kelly really struggling.

A Kildare team without Kelly, Flynn and Doyle would be vulnerable. Three of our strongest players:

Donnellan
P Kelly
Hyland
Lyons
MOF
Conway
Houlihan/Byrne/Bolton/COD/Murnaghan
Moolick
Feely
Tyrrell/McNally
EOF
Cribbin
Smith
N Flynn
Leper/EOC/Healy/Dowling

Very attacking line up there kickingking, if reports are to believed, we won't be lining up with six forwards as you suggest there.

Not necessarily what I'd go with, just trying to imagine what sort of starting 15 we could end up with if those three players are out.

I think we're unlikely to see changes in the full back line with Fitzpatrick injured. McGrillen was injured and hasn't really got a run since. I can't see Powderly pitched in at the deep end.

If Doyle is out I think Conway definitely starts. I could see a case for sacrificing a forward and playing Morgan O'Flaherty as a sweeper with number 10 or 12 on his back leaving two from O'Donoghue, Byrne, Houlihan, Bolton and Murnaghan as the wing backs.

The trouble with that might be ensuring we can get enough scores. Kelly and Flynn out reduces our goal threat significantly. Neil Flynn is very promising but he's still very young and we know from experience that Smith blows hot and cold. Tyrrell is untested at this level. We're going to be depending on a big show from both Paul Cribbin and Eoghan O'Flaherty.

We're on the B side so it's the same side of the draw as the likes of Mayo, Galway, Tipp, Monaghan, Down, Donegal and Fermanagh.

Not sure what way the provinces are matched up for fourth round qualifiers or quarter finals though.

I've no reason to doubt that fone, but you have to question the reason why now.

If the Championship was the target for the year why are they going to try something that they have no idea how it will work out in the most important game. The time to try new stuff was February and March.

It's such a Kildare thing to do, plough on all spring with an obvious flaw and then when there is no time for verification on whether it works or not, use it in a pivotal game.

Totally agree Rex, Cian O Neill was on the sideline last year as we shipped 7 goals in one half against Kerry, he surely realised a defensive structure was number one priority this year. A good defensive structure can't be plugged in in a number of weeks. It takes months to get the defensive side of that right, never mind the second phase of a proper counter attack.

His number one priority was promotion which was achieved, introducing changes during the league could have jeopardised that, this place would have gone into meltdown if we weren't promoted. The evolution of any team technically, tactically, physically and mentally doesn't happen overnight. Kildare as recognised by everyone here are technically poor in defense and have been probably since Grimley moved on, O'Neill can't wave a magic wand that will take time to evolve and would expect tactically building blocks are already in place. You also need games to identify the personnel to implement your game plan, let's see how the summer goes, patience gents.

The evolution of any team technically, tactically, physically and mentally doesn't happen overnight.

I agree 100% however after 4 games in the O'Byrne Cup, 8 games in the League, numerous friendlies and approx. 80 training sessions one would and maybe should expect some improvement and notice the effect of the new management team.

Having spoken to some lads they haven't seen it yet but hopefully from Saturday onwards we will all see improvement. Cill Dara Abu.

Yeah good post Dinny, we had to get out of Div 3 and we did that fairly easily even if the final defeat was disappointing, We are definitely a poorer team without Niall Kelly which would be a worry for next weekend.
Still think we will do enough to win but I would worry about the next game which I believe will be against a resurgent Offaly. Never nice to lose to those lads!
