Gay Campbell has been involved with minors for three or four years? If not more? He would surely have a good handle on the underage scene and what's coming through the development squads. He didn't play for Kildare or win an All-Ireland. So what? Like that's some guarantee. Jesus, even winning All-Irelands with clubs or in other spheres is no guarantee when you move on. He served his time, he's in the system... he's earned his shot. Pretty shitty comment to be fair about him being there one year as some sort of hanger-on cos his son was playing.

What's the crop of players like?

Gay Campbell has been involved with development squads and county minor teams for the last 6 or 7 years, maybe more. He has managed the U17 development squad this year and is a very good coach and a decent man. Like all other mentors and coaches with development squads and county minor teams this year and in the past, they get nothing in terms of expenses for the time and effort, not that they would want it and I think its a bit rich for some on here and some so called kildare supporters to question the credentials of anyone who are willing to commit their time to promote the GAA in kildare. These mentors all have the qualifications to be in there otherwise they would not be considered. A little support and respect wouldn't go astray.

Going on your previous posts, what you know about local GAA would most likely fit on the back of a stamp.

Is being a "gent" and a "lovely man" now the main attributes of county managers in Kildare? We'll have the likes of Ogie, yourself and a few others complaining about our players being too nice and that we don't produce enough mean bastards.

It looks to me Brandan Hackett has chosen his successor. Why? He hardly covered himself in glory in his last game.

Sack Gay Campbell now, right? Have to laugh at some of the stuff on here. Every coach is useless, certain players are 'scumbags' or 'thugs'. Rest of them are 'too nice'. Hackett ridiculed despite back to back Leinster titles. Must be tough being perfect.

[quote="SeamusMurphy"]Surprised at those comments from you taibi. Hackett wanted Campbell to become manager he said it after he step down minor manager, Hackett was sacked by Westmeath only months in job and has involved in at least 20 gaa senior setups

And?

All I know is he is one of the most successful Kildare football managers ever.

I purposely didn't bring Gay as a man into it, though he absolutely is a gent. He is also tough.

What I said was that he was involved for many years and that it was completely inaccurate to paint a picture of him being in there for one year, because his son was on the team, and belittling his role as water-carrier.

With six or seven years in the system and I reckon maybe four with the minors, it was a natural fit. In Dublin, it would be an absolute given he would get the job with that sort of experience and those sort of credentials.

Not making anything personal, it's just not right to print a line and for that to be construed as fact. Would you accept that Taibi?

Hackett being labelled a failure tells us that Campbell will be too, unless he wins an All-Ireland. Hopefully he gets two years and if he can bag a Leinster.

To those who don't think Campbell should be the minor manager, who would you have in there instead?

Suspect some people won't be happy until Glenn Ryan is managing the seniors, under 21s and minors all at the same time!

I know its the wrong tread but its to do with underage.

Edenderry won the Leinster schools today they had 7 Carbury lads on the panel 3 of which were with the Kildare under 16 developments squad. Last Saturday the 3 lads had an all Ireland soccer quarter final which they won, the game was on the same time as the under 16s had training. On Sunday the 3 lads were dropped off the panel because they missed the training session but the management were made aware of this well in advance. My typing this is if we start going down this route how many more players will we lose because a 15 year old has to make a choice its a disgrace which should be brought up at the next co board meeting.

Why is it a disgrace ?

Players selected for a representative KDUL u/14 team are told they can't play Gaelic .

Whether it be Gaelic , soccer or rugby you have to choose which sport you want to play if you are serious about it.

They chose soccer.

These lads are 15 years old let them play whatever sport they want. This is not going down well in Carbury I'm sure they will bring something up. Also the manager/selector is from Carbury as well.
