Thought this might / could happen again.. it's an awkward one alright, and hard on the player's being forced to make choices and not let anyone down.. be interesting to see how the club's playing at the weekend react.

The county board needs to step in here. The minor championship can be put back if needs be.

I don't blame Brendan Hackett at all, he's looking after his team but the board need to impose themselves and release players.

In some counties, they'd play senior championship if they were in a senior semi-final. It's daft. If they're eligible by age/rule to play, they must be allowed play and if the board stands over an edict not allowing them to, what prevents a county senior manager stopping players playing club championship... it's an acceleration of the process towards the complete split between the club and county, whereby once a player makes a county panel, he plays no club at all... that would be very sad.

As you say Seamus, it's most awkward on the players - they should not be put in the position of having the choose. The board must do the right thing by everyone they are responsible for. And I say that even if guys pick up injuries. There's something much bigger at stake.

By the way, good win, good reaction to conceding 1-1 and losing Jimmy Hyland late in first half.

Wrapping young lads in a cocoon for 4 weeks is ridiculous and as someone said look what happened last year with the no-show against Tipperary. Should be let off to play for their clubs for the next 2 weeks.

Looking more broadly the GAA in general needs to come up with a proper calendar pretty damn quick or it's going to lose more and more club players. They need to dispense with the pre-season competitions (O'Byrne cup etc) and shorten the season to finish with the All Ireland on the Aug bank holiday. Club championships including provincials/ All Ireland to run from August to November. County teams limited to 30 players and to have call on those players January to July. No significant break between league and championship (I would link the two competitions anyway). Counties can swap players in and out but must only have 30 squad players at any time). Means those 30 don't play club league games but so be it. You can't have everything.

Ah sure isn't it all sorted with Duffy's new under 17 and under 20 competitions next year.

Great win with a number of lads not playing at their full potential. Obv Robinson was the difference. Best footballer on the field by some distance. Hope we'll have a plan B on the kickouts for the next day: we were wiped out in the first half on our own kickouts.

Will there be 2 rounds of the minor and senior club championship before the lads play kerry on the 28th ?.

Cant believe we are hearing this Sh*te again will we for god sake let these lads play football as someone said earlier did we not see what happened last year. Hopefully the county board will show some balls and let these lads play with there clubs or the clubs chairmen insist that the players have to play and stop with this dictatorship. Its going on to long in Kildare with feck all success and it has to stop now.

It'd be interesting to see what'd happen alright. Would probably depend on which clubs refused.

The Kerry minors are all playing for their clubs tonight in the minor championship down there.

Lily it would be only the club's relying on them. The top ones obviously wouldn't have an issue as they'd be unlikely to figure anyway.

Whatever happens the playets should be left out of it. Young lads don't want to let anyone down.

Happened to be down in Offaly & took in the game on the way back. Very impressed with the team, Defending was brilliant, O'Toole outstanding. Midfield a bit iffy in the first half, positioned too far out on their own kick-outs, so it was not reaching them but they took total control in the second. McLoughlin ( with the bit of BIFFO blood) played well, drifting way out in the first half and finding the inside lads with good long kick passes and his bullet goal finished the contest. But from first to last the skinny young lad, Jack R, was fantastic, Its great to see a really good forward. All Mayo could do was foul him ( & get a few Black Cards) or admire him as he cut them to ribbons. I was told it was not off the ground helicked it either......... Best of luck for the semi.............

I'd say that's the common concensus jim.
Hopefully it won't be an issue and overshadow their preparation.. maybe getting away from it and playing a game or two with their club might help take their mind off things.

Three players carried knocks into the tipperary game last year resulting from a round of championship with the clubs ,this had a huge bearing on the result imo
. We could be without 3 of mondays starting 15 when we play kerry. Do we need to risk injury to any more lads

Better not let them train or maybe not leave the house.

The lads were told that if they play this weekend and then midweek next week then its 3 games in 8 days and it would increase their chances of injury but "if they wanted to play they could"... My own club are contemplating the option of possibly getting our minor championship game put back a week to help the situation but its definitely not a nice situation for any of these lads to have to choose between club and county

They could also get injured training. Part and parcel of the game. Kerry don't seem to have a problem with their lads playing for the clubs. There'd be no worse preparation in my view than doing tippy-tappy training for a month with nothing to occupy the minds only Kerry in Croke Park. It's a recipe for being under-cooked (if that makes sense in culinary terms!!)

Let them off ta fuck...

Wrapping them up isn't the right option either. . As crofter stated they could get injured in training as easy.. a happy medium might be as was suggested previously, put the minor championship back a week.

Interestingly our 2 fellas are em doubtful due to carrying a ahem niggle.. the irony is one fella didn't even fckn play.

Whatever about wrapping them up, having the clubs that need them play without them in the championship is the final slap in the face for clubs and the official confirmation that the clubs are NOT the base of the GAA, though they're supposed to be and you still hear that said at Central and various board levels... I just cannot imagine a county board saying 'that's okay'.

And again, yes, it cannot be left up to the players.

The minor championship is the one that can be held up if need be, as there is no provincial element. And if they don't care about the provincial competition, but the senior games back. But you cannot tell a club, you're not allowed play 'x' in the championship. If you do, we're gone pro and just say so, like what happened in rugby - whereby a player is on a county panel, he is no longer available to the club and just carry on.

I don't see anyone not being behind the team and management at all moatesports - I'm not even from Kildare and I'm delighted, and obviously people who are following Kildare all their lives are ecstatic. It's just that you can't have it every way and the club either matters or it doesn't.
