Conor Tiernan was prob most influential player in co final and he only came on at half time, would he be worth a place on panel? I think so personally and it surprises me he hasn't featured before

Tiernan gave up football at the end of last year and had to be persuaded to return for the latter stages of this year's club championship. There's an interview with him in this week's Nationalist where he says he fell out of love with the game and intends on concentrating on doing triathlons in the future.

It's a pity to see Adam Tyrell out for 2017, he showed glimpses of promise this year.

Great to see Mick O'Grady back in, top player.

Think Chalky would be a backward step. We have a number of younger more mobile options for his position(s). He never quite seemed to nail senior intercounty football anyway after great promise at under-21.

Kevin Murnaghan seems to have dropped quietly off the panel. Wasn't mentioned in the despatches if I recall. What's the story there?

Would like to see Shea Ryan and Ben McCormack come in and given the lack of forwards in that panel I presume Alan Smith may be back. Con Kavanagh had a good county final and might get another chance after being with the panel for a couple of weeks I believe last year. I would have thought Mick Kelly is a better option in defence than one or two who are picked. Hopefully he comes in too although the panel is overloaded with defenders.

The sash have proven how limited they are in my opinion. Fair play to them for winning the Kildare championship but I don't think Cian O Neill will be making too many calls to the squad.

There must be a few more from the bridge we can bring in.

I read Con Kavanagh, Shea Ryan, Conor Hartley and Ben McCormack. Not sure what that means about Smith. Have never been a huge fan of Cahill as an inter-county forward but would have expected him to get another go if only due to the dearth of free-takers, particularly left-footed ones, in the panel.

Here's what I read from Kildare Now.  Seems there are no Towers lads called in either.

Sorry I should have separated the two issues : absence of free takers generally(Cahill) and absence of left footed ones (??). Didn't read about Kelly call up - thanks for confirming.

Cahill is a very good footballer but I always felt he struggled when he was being marked by county players. Smith has not done enough for me to be involved in the county panel although if he could get back to his best he should be on it. Although towers are a good steady team all round nobody really stands out. I think that bears itself with only 1 on the panel. Only time will tell how all these lads get on.

Read that Sean Hurley is coming back from Oz for good. Can only be a good addition once he gets over his injury.
