Surprised to see Leper still there if he is, but fair play to him he's a leader and we need some of them. Think Ollie is a big loss despite not doing too well on Jamie Clark with the amount of space giving in front he would do that to anyone.

Ollie has been a brilliant servant and had some outstanding games, but he was destroyed by Brogan and Clarke last year. If we're to make the step-up, next season we need tight-marking, tough-tackling, hard bastard defenders who can also play ball. Unfortunately Ollie doesn't fit the bill but he has made a huge contribution this decade. The very best of luck to him and on to the next chapter for all concerned.

Callaghan is a busted flush and should be dropped. I know that's harsh but look at the final stages of that Armagh game and defy anyone to tell me any different.

For me most exciting additions are young McLouglin, who's an absolute horse of a player, Flynn and Mikey Kelly, who I know O'Neill has been mad keen to get in for ages.

Aaron O'Neill the best underage Kildare keeper I've seen - his kickouts Cluxton-esque.

Aside from McLoughlin, there are a glut of players from last year's minor team who have the stuff, although they will be next year's U20s so maybe that's part of O'Neill's thinking? We have a savage U20 team next year, btw.

We could have a fine u20 side next season, however under the new rules anyone making a senior championship 26 on match day can't play u20.

What's the story with the Sarsfields crew - Hartley injured fair enough but surprised Shea Ryan and Kavanagh getting the chop / walking away??

I heard they're planning on doing a bit of travelling next year. Surprised Jack Robinson didn't get called in

It's strange one with Ollie apart from the last two games he was very good throughout the year especially against Laois and Meath in cahmapionship. In the games against Dublin and Armagh he was marking probably the best forward in Irleand over the last 10 years who came on with fresh legs and one of the best forwards in the country this year. He has been very consistent for Kildare for years which makes it odd.

Personally, I think father time caught up with Ollie a bit. For me, Clarke is good but the Keegans, Boyles, Higgins of this world would have eaten him alive - probably got forward and driven in a goal to boot. That's the highest standard, but we're in Div 1 next year so no room for sentiment I'm afraid.

I get what you lads are saying but do we have many better, is there many from Kildare that could do a better job marking Clarke and Brogan, if it wasn't his call and mostly Cian's I'd rather him on the panel that not.

LillieLad - if there aren't defence improvements next year, we will be relegated and Dublin will beat us by double what we they did in Leinster final this summer, if we actually get there.

However it happens, tightening up defensively is paramount... If Ollie feels he can't commit fully, so be it. As O'Neill says, brilliant player for Kildare and owes us nothing.

I never thought ollie was an outstanding player but he certainly was a good player. We had him man mark some of the best county players around the country and he did well on a lot of them so I say he will be a loss for us next year.

Good to see additions to the panel.

I am being hard on leper her but I think he cannot offer anything to improve the squad.
Bolton has retired and he is better than leper imo.

Seem to remember this time last year we on here could hardly put a six man forward line together. That worked out ok. Opportunity knocks maybe for Dempsey or Kelly. Think we needed a shake-up at the back so may as well try the likes of those guys. Powderley could be another candidate.

Nice look to that team bigball but I’d go with Neil Flynn ahead of Hyland/McNally. I’m a big fan of Jimmy Hylands, thought he was one of the better players on show last week against Westmeath but not sure he’s ready for Div. 1 football just yet.

Anyone know how badly Injured Paddy Brophy is. He was wearing a protective boot on his right leg at the match last week.

Fair enough fear an gheata but mcnally was vrry good last year i thought. Hard to see who will replace Lyons in the corner. Would like to see mcloughlin get some time at centre forward in the league nice footballer. Ben mccormack also is a quality forward. We have lots of options up front for as long a time as I can remember.

I see only looking at that challenge game that Luke Flynn was in the middle. Now he is a man with serious pace who likes to get stuck in.
A full back line of Flynn, Hyland and O'Grady might be worth a look. In fairness he plays full back for JTB and got the call-up based on that.
Nowadays a corner back is expected to follow a man drifting out and be able to be sticky after all...

Dempsey looks the most obvious replacement for Lyons as a man-marker at least but hopefully he’ll still be with Moorefield for most of the league. Mikey Kelly has a great reputation also in club football but I haven’t seen much of him.

I’d go with Ben in the corner although Neil and Cathal haven’t done much wrong. Jimmy from the bench to start with. Could do some serious damage when games open up a bit. Great talent.

One of the great things about Div 1 is that you find out very sharpish if lads are up to it, and what better test than the premier team in the country.

For me the defence is the top priority. Mayo are the market leaders in tight man markers and we are still a long way off them. For me, Hyland and Doyle are the core of the defence, but after that, it's all up for grabs as far I'm concerned. Hopefully a few lads put their hands up. It still riles me how open we were against Armagh and especially the freedom we gave Clarke.

Jimmy Hyland one of the best underage forwards I've ever seen in Kildare. Incredibly skilful, able to beat his man and a lethal finisher. Again like Ben McCormack, totally un-Kildare-like, but we seem to be bucking the trend with forwards on recent underage sides and long may it continue.

I know O'Neill has been mad to get Mikey Kelly for a couple of years so will be interesting to see how he progresses.

Massive game for us the 27th of Jan. If we are not within a score of what will be a rusty enough Dublin team it will not be good for confidence.

Mick Kelly was in last Year briefly and it didn't work out.

Is Jimmy that good HG ?.. He's been out injured for ages so how can He be even considered ahead of Ben or Neil is really strange imo.
