Banana skin written all over this. Let's hope they don't think they have redeemed themselves by beating Derry allowing them to settle into their old habits again.

Same intensity and desire and they'll do well. If they get complacent we'll all be back to looking for pitchforks.

Think Saturday’s win will have done a world of good for the lads confidence and hopefully that is the kick we needed to get back into gear. On Paper realistically the results should be:

Tipperary v Mayo - Mayo
Waterford v Monaghan - Monaghan
Cavan v Down - Cavan
Carlow v Tyrone - Tyrone
Offaly v Clare - Offaly
Longford v Kildare - Kildare
Sligo v Armagh - Armagh
Leitrim v Louth - Louth

Will be an interesting Round 3 and looks a tougher draw than Round 4 will be.

With you most of the way - I'd go:
Mayo/Monaghan/Cavan/Tyrone/ Clare/Kildare Shocked /Armagh/Leitrim

Looking for them? There was a special offer in Woodies couple weeks back. I bought 2 . Have one in the boot of the car and one at the house.

One can never be too careful with Kildare GAA

Pat Spillane , Brolly, O Sé and O Rourke are all of the opinion that Kildare have better players in the county than we are currently showing. I believe so too.

As does most on here. We cannot all be wrong .

I was impressed with Longford in the 2nd half when they went to 14 men . For 25 minutes of the 2nd half they went toe to toe with Dublin . They played 53 mins with 14 men , only in the last 10 did their inferior fitness begin to show.

We really need to perform to win this , make no mistake about it. We've better players all over the park but as we've seen this far this counts for nothing.

If we don't seal up the defence we could really struggle. We concede 2-14 against Carlow and 2-14 against Derry. Division 3 and 4 teams . Longford I feel are better than both . There's nothing to suggest we won't concede something similar.

We've 2 weeks to work on this . This isn't a top tier team . There can be no excuses and no hiding

Make no mistake if the mentality is wrong going into this game, we will be beaten.

Longford will have taken note of how Carlow rattled us. They will be physical, aggressive and looking to get into our heads. We have to be ready.

How many banana skins are still out there for God sake?, fully convinced even Kildare won't mess up this one, you can talk up Longford until the cows come home but at the end of the day if Kildare don't win this then I will personally walk home from Longford backwards wearing a Laois jersey

Longford will win this one with a bit to spare, stop codding yourselves that we have somehow become a better team because we beat a weak Derry team. Longford have hardly ever been beaten in Pearse Park, even the great Dubs couldn't beat them up there.
They specialise in the qualifiers and we, to be honest, are as poor as I have ever seen a Kildare team. SeamusMurphy, if we do get the Carlsberg Draw, Longford, Louth and Laois I would be seriously worried about Laois. They have a serious manager who outfoxed and out thought Carlow yesterday, something our clown couldn't do and I'm sure he would relish a crack at us.

Confidence will be high after Derry whereas Longford will surely have their self-esteem tested after a 19 pt defeat.
We make life harder by being so porous at the back. At this stage I would start Murray at 6 and I know this sounds controversial but either play Doyle at FB or drop him. His style of play is just not suited to commanding the centre of defense as he retreats too much. Just my opinion which I'm sure a lot will not please everyone.
Any news on injuries? Confine Neil Flynn to swimming exercise until the game, can't do your hamstring in the pool surely

We have just been beaten by Carlow by 7 points and hadn't won a game in a year. You might be be advised to bring a comfortable pair of shoes.

That's the same Laois Team that could and should have lost to Wexford Borderline.. who in turn lost to Waterford.

That poor Westmeath Keeper, he'll never get over that howler.. must have been concussion.

If anyone wants a warning from history...

Eight years ago as minors, this exact same group of Kildare players - with Cian O'Neill as part of the backroom team - twice saw off a star-studded Dublin team featuring Ciaran Kilkenny & Jack McCaffrey in the Leinster championship.

It looked like a Leinster title was inevitable... But in the wild swing in form that has become their trademark, they lost the next match to - yes - Longford, in Longford.

We can't say we haven't been forewarned.

Murray went CB. I still think it's outrageous he didn't play in Carlow debacle.

Tactically the defence is still the single biggest issue in this team. There is no way we should be gifting soft goals to a team like Derry. In general, goals are killing us.

Someone needs to be delegated to sit in front of the centre back when he drops, and the wing forwards and midfielders still aren't doing enough defensively to plug gaps.

If we could sort out that basic that set-up, everyone would start to look a lot better individually.

Just listening on the radio, I presume it was a real shootout in Derry - open, two teams bombing forward and leaving holes?

Why I'm saying that is while it was great to get the bounce back, great for supporters and great for players - interesting to hear Dan Flynn saying the confidence was just so low - but when comparing with Carlow, would it be really apples and oranges as two completely different types of games? And would the Derry type of game suit Kildare more although it would mean the defensive issues might be magnified but the athletes in the Kildare team really prosper in space.

So saying the forwards improved, was it just easier to do so? I know Cian said they missed 1-10 in the first half against Carlow - was that dreadful shooting or were they under more pressure taking the shot against Carlow? I don't know - just asking. They sounded like two completely different types of games and I wondered if Derry suited Kildare's strengths more and it wouldn't necessarily mean that you'd fare better with 14 men behind the ball next time?

But no doubt, you wanted to see that they were hurt and wanting to leave it all out there and from what I hear, you got that. And that type of finishing was more commendable given that spirits and confidence were low. And of course you got savage entertainment too.

Ogie it was the type of game that definitely suited Kildare more, which is why I'm very wary of Longford match.

Honestly, the psychology is a huge issue with this group. In the league, they played teams with more sophisticated defensive systems and more quality than Carlow (Monaghan & Tyrone), and although they couldn't seal the deal, they competed very hard and probably should have won both games.

Carlow were very physical and aggressive which they simply weren't ready for - they looked like a team who thought they simply had to turn up - and once Carlow turned over a few early attacks and got inside their heads, the whole thing rapidly disintegrated.

Which is why if they aren't prepared to fight every inch of the way against Longford, the same thing will happen again.

That's what I thought. And that is my worry. You'd take a one-point win again, all day long because better teams than Kildare have been beaten at Pearse Park.

I would also take a one-point win, no question. You saw with Mayo last year – these games are all about winning, end of.

I also think winning a close game would be beneficial for this team. If you go back over the past 18 months, the only close game they won was Clare in the league. They tend to either blow teams away or lose. They badly need to develop in terms of resolve and psychological toughness.

That Derry game was in the melting pot around to the 55/60 min and you couldn't call it, that was a pretty close despite the fact we pulled away in the end. Carlow were much more defensive but we did improve a lot. Derry hit us hard and we just kept going there was no backward step taking. Anyways going to miss the next one going to the Killers concert Sad

Would agree with Doyle, Murray has been excellent for Moorefield for the past 2 years and seems to be more of a typical centre back. He can get forward and kick a score too. Doyle is a more suited to FB line hes quick and strong in there. Dont think he has enough playmaking ability for CB.

A group who peaked early and failed to fulfil their potential – just like Kildare!

Interestingly on the Dublin forum they were saying the dubs were playing Kildare in a challenge game last night, mostly their subs and panel members I imagine though. Anyone hear anything?
