Earley to make decision after surgery
10 September 2010
Dermot Earley will make a decision on his inter-county future after he undergoes surgery on his injured knee.
The long-serving Kildare midfielder was hampered by the injury throughout this year's championship and missed the heartbreaking All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Down after suffering a recurrence of the problem in the quarter-final win over Meath.
"We'll see what happens, the dust is only settling on this year," he told the Irish Daily Star.
"We'll see how the operation goes, how the rehab goes. It's been at me since a couple of weeks before we played Laois in the league. I was able to get through it, but each game it got progressively worse and I ended up doing a good bit of damage against Meath."
The Sarsfields clubman is keeping his fingers crossed that Kieran McGeeney will commit to a fourth season in charge of the Lilywhites.
"It's a difficult period so soon after losing a big match like we did against Down. There is a certain period when you just have to let the dust settle and just everybody take a bit of time to reassess things.
"I am sure that is what everybody is doing. Hopefully we can all get back and give it another go next year," he added.
Sounds fairly encouraging. Hard to see him walking away from it.
